Gyan scores first goal in Indian League as NorthEast United beat Odisha FC

Ghana forward, Asamoah Gyan, grabbed his league goal for NorthEast United as they edged Odisha FC 2-1 on Saturday.

Gyan headed home a corner in the 84th minute to hand United the victory on the day and their first win of the new season.

The match was levelled at 1-1 after Redeem Tlang and Xisco traded goals for NorthEast United and Odisha FC in the 2nd and 70th minutes respectively.

The result sent NorthEast United to to the top of the league table on 4 points.

Hero of the Day

Gyan was awarded the Hero of the Match and he walked away with a cheque of 50,000 rupees or USD 705. The money was donated by co-owner of the club John Abraham.

The goal was well-received by fans of the club as it handed them their first victory of the season but more importantly, it gave them the chance to see Gyan score for the team.

His arrival was greeted by a lot of excitement especially due to his scoring reputation in his professional career.
