Captain Andre Ayew will make his 85th appearance for Ghana’s senior national team tonight in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Andre made his debut for the Black Stars against Senegal on August 21, 2007 having been called up to the squad by Ghana’s coach at the time, Claude Le Roy.

Before making his first appearance for the Black Stars, Ayew had been eligible to play for the French national team.

He has gone on to appear at six AFCON tournaments and two World Cups for Ghana and has scored 15 goals.

He quit the national team in 2013 having been dropped for that year’s AFCON tournament, however, he returned to the squad later that same year.

Ayew was named Black Stars captain ahead of the 2019 AFCON and led the side to the second round of the tournament before they were knocked out by Tunisia.

He is joined in midfield by Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, Baba and Alfred Duncan.

RCD Mallorca midfielder, Iddrisu Baba has been handed his full international debut by coach Kwesi Appiah in the squad.

Baba, who is one of a number of debutants in the Black Stars squad,  has made ten La Liga appearances for Mallorca so far this season and has been rewarded with his first start for the Black Stars.

Zulte Waregem’s Gideon Mensah, who was a late call-up to the squad, also makes his first appearance for the Stars

Richard Ofori predictably starts in goal and is supported by a back four of Andy Yiadom, Mensah, Joseph Aidoo, Kassim Nuhu.

Jordan Ayew leads the line, along with Dalian Yifang’s Emmanuel Boateng.
