Hearts 3-2 Bechem: Kofi Kordzi’s last gasp winner saves Phobian blushes

Striker Kofi Kordzi scored a 94th minute header to give Accra Hearts of Oak a 3-2 win against Bechem United at the Accra stadium in a match week 10 encounter in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The game appeared to be heading for a 2-2 draw when Hafiz Konkoni canceled out Fatawu Mohammed’s goal in the second half after the first half ended 1-1.

But Kordzi headed Emmanuel Nettey’s pinpoint cross into the far corner deep into injury time to steal all three points.

Hearts of Oak started the better of the two sides but it was Bechem who scored first through the penalty spot after Robert Addo hacked down Hafiz Konkoni in the 28th minute.

The incident appeared to occur outside the box but referee Bernard Dumfeh pointed to the spot. Prince Adu Kwabena stepped up and sent Richard Atta the wrong way for his 7th goal of the season.

However, the lead only lasted 3 minutes as Hearts were awarded a penalty of their own. Kofi Kordzi appeared to handle in the Bechem box but the referee pointed to spot, amidst protest from a section of Hearts of Oak fans.

Kordzi converted to level matters going into the break.

After recess, Hearts of Oak shot ahead in the 65th minute, substitute Abdul Manaf’s shot deflected past Daniel Afadwu by Hearts captain Fatawu Mohammed.

Ten minutes later, Bechem were level. Hafiz Konkoni started things off on the left, switched play to the right and made a run to the 18 yard area to connect beautifully from Randolf Augustine’s cross from the right hand side.

With the score locked at 2-2 and Hearts of Oak fans running out of patience, Kordzi found the winner in injury time with his second goal of the day to give the Phobians their second home win of the season.
