Ghana’s top sports journalists gathered at the Accra City Hotel on Tuesday, March 3 as new head coach of the Black Stars, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, read out his 23-man squad for the AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Sudan.

There was a light, almost celebratory mood as the hotel as the silence in the auditorium was constantly punctured, first by sounds of reporters interacting colleagues from other media houses and then by drumming and singing by members of the supporters union.

The anticipation heightened even more when C.K Akonnor arrived and took his place at the table, where he was joined by his assistant, David Duncan; Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, George Amoako and the Ghana Football Association’s new Director of Communications, Henry Asante Twum.

After a few more pleasantries were exchanged before it was time to get down to business.

After Henry had provided an overview of the event and the Black Stars’ itinerary once the international break arrived it was time for C.K to read out his much-awaited list.

The whole process, though quite brief was filled with some tense, surprising and even humorous moments which had the whole room howling with laughter.

A few of the names even elicited applause from the audience.

Our man behind the camera, Yaw Antwi Owusu captured the various moments, emotions and reactions in the auditorium.

Take a look at some of the best.
