Ghanaian international, Tony Yeboah took the English Premier League by storm, excelling during his stay at Leeds United.

On 18th March 1995, Ghana’s Tony Yeboah opened the day’s account in the 39th minute with a stunning scissor’ kick as Leeds United walked over Coventry at Elland Road.

A cross was swung from the right flank, ricocheted in the box a bit before Gary Speed’s snapshot was cleared off the line but Tony Yeboah was in the right place and caught the ball on a volley with an acrobatic strike.

Jonathan Gould scored an own goal before Rodney Wallace made it three to make sure Leeds United disappeared out of sight of the opponents.

Background of Tony Yeboah at Leeds

The Ghanaian international played 47 goals for The Whites. He played in the Premier League from 1995-1997 with West Yorkshire based club.

He joined The Peacocks from Eintracht Frankfurt for £3.4 million in January 1995.

He also scored three hat-tricks for Leeds; the first against Ipswich Town in the Premier League at Elland Road on 5 April 1995, which made him the second foreign player to score a league hat-trick for Leeds (Cantona v Tottenham in August 1992 was the first), three months after Phil Masinga became the first foreign player to score a hat-trick for the club when he found the net three times in an FA Cup tie.  Yeboah’s second hat-trick came against Monaco in the 1995–96 UEFA Cup on 12 September 1995, and the third 11 days later in the Premier League match against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park which included the aforementioned Goal of the Season.
