Drogba beats Ibrahimovic, Mbappe, Benzema to be named best Ligue 1 forward in last 20 years

Former Olympique Marseille striker, Didier Drogba has been voted as the best forward to have played in the French League in the 21st century.

Drogba spent two-and-a-half years at Marseille and Guingamp, scoring 39 goals in 80 games in Ligue.

He also played 64 games for Ligue 2 side, Le Mans and scored 12 goals.

Drogba won the competition created by the French league’s official Twitter account.

He faced off against Fernando Morientes, Karim Benzema and Pauleta in separate rounds, winning each before progressing to the final.

In the final round against Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Drogba emerged victorious even though the Swede scored 113 goals in 122 games for PSG.

Drogba thanked the fans who voted for him and the two clubs he played for in the French top flight.

Other players who missed out include, Kylian Mbappe, Eden Hazard and Edinson Cavani.
