Alex Kotey: Housing and transportation for referees under consideration

Referees manager at the GFA Alex Kotey says discussions are still ongoing to improve the welfare of referees and match officials in the country as far as match days in the league are concerned.

The current Kurt Okraku led GFA administration promised before it took office to provide transportation and accommodation to referees as part of plans to reduce team officials influence on matches.

The initiative has however not taken off but according to Alex Kotey contact has been made with the relevant stakeholders despite the slow progress.

“The FA is still in the process.

“Recently the FA just met the Ministry of Transport where we are trying to see how best we can bring some of these transport companies into the field and also ask them for some rebate with regards to the travelling of referees.

“With the hotels we all know what is happening now in the world.

“Because of that approaching hotels is going to take some time.

“Let us be patient and pray and hope that Covid – 19 will be over so we can approach the hoteliers,” he explained in an interview with Citi Sports.
