On this day 14 years, Black Stars’ all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan scored the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal against the Czech Republic.
After losing to Italy in the first game of the competition, Ghana played the Czech Republic who were ranked 2nd in the FIFA world rankings.
Ghana’s striker, Asamoah Gyan picked up a pass from skipper Stephen Appiah, controlled the ball before releasing an early shot with his left foot to beat Petr Cech.
The Black Stars went ahead to secure all three points with a 2-0 win in Cologne as Sulley Ali Muntari added the second to stun their opponents.
That win gave Ghana its first-ever World Cup glory.
