Jordan Ayew won 17 points for Crystal Palace; they would have been relegated without his goals

Jordan Ayew was Crystal Palace’s saviour for much of this season and the stats back this fact.

Throughout the just-ended campaign, he produced crucial goals that literally kept Palace up at the end of the campaign.

Crystal Palace’s twitter account recently celebrated the player after he won a hat-trick of end-of-season awards, including Goal of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season, with a post suggesting his goals had won 14 points for the Eagles.

It turns out his contributions were even more pronounced than that.

9 goals worth 14 points.
10 Man of the Match Awards.
2 Player of the Month Awards.
1 Goal of the Season.
1 Goal at the seaside.

The 17 points Ayew actually won for Palace in the recent campaign basically kept them in the Premier League.

Aside from five match-winning strikes, Jordan also scored the point-earning equalisers in two games this season.

The Ghanaian was on the scoresheet earlier in the season, netting the only goal in Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa in August 2019.

Jordan celebrates winner over West Ham in October

In October, Jordan scored the last winner for Palace against West Ham – a 2-1 win before scoring the equaliser with a header in their 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates two weeks later.

He then scored another magnificent 90th-winner against the Hammers in December, which also earned him his Goal of the Season prize.

Jordan was on target against the Gunners yet again in the new year, scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on January 11.

Jordan then scored the only goal in Palace’s 1-0 win at Brighton, at the time a crucial goal in the battle against relegation.

In March, the Black Stars forward found the net with a brilliant finish against Watford in the first half, a goal that turned out to be the only one of the game, giving Palace their second win in as many games.

Jordan’s goals have basically kept Palace out of the relegation dogfight in the second half of the season, eventually resulting in them staying up.

Palace finished the campaign with 43 points, just nine points ahead of Bournemouth and Watford who were relegated.

Without the Black Stars striker’s goals, Palace would be down in 19th place, with 26 points in the Premier League.

And, given Palace fans and the Players’ decisions at the end of year awards, they know just how crucial Jordan’s fine form this season was for their survival.

Jordan Ayew eventually finished the season with nine goals, becoming Ghana’s highest-ever goalscorer in the Premier League.
