Would any current Liverpool player make it into this Barcelona side? Debate rages on social media

Exactly how good is the current Liverpool team?

That’s a question that’s been the topic of much debate since it became clear Liverpool would win the Premier League at a canter.

They’ve been compared to some of the greatest Premier League teams in the history of the Premier League – Arsenal’s Invincibles, Chelsea 2004/05 side and Man City’s centurions.

With a European title and a Premier League title in two years, some have suggested that they might be one of the best sides in Europe in recent years.

Players like Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have come up for lots of praise for their dominant performances.

One Barcelona fan, however, believes none of the current players in the Liverpool first team would make it into Barcelona’s first team from the 2008/09 season.

Twitter user, Pawan (@Immortal_Cule) posted a photo of the squad, which included Samuel Eto’o, Victor Valdes, Eric Abidal and Thierry Henry, and claimed not one of Liverpool’s players would get into that side.

Unpopular opinion : None of Liverpool's current squad would start for 08/09 Barca . pic.twitter.com/tLqIHlMmSn

Of course, it set off a raging debate on social media with some Liverpool fans who starting giving reasons why that assertion was wrong.

The strongest arguments were made against then-Barcelona keeper, Valdes; left-back, Eric Abidal and forward, Thierry Henry.

Some Reds fans feel Andy Robertson and Alisson would walk into the team while also arguing that Henry was on the decline at the Spanish club.

They believe that either Salah or Mane could definitely be in with a shout of making the starting line up.

A few even stated that Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have been playing well enough to displace Dani Alves and Gerard Pique respectively, although this was quickly dismissed by Barcelona fans.

Below are a few of the arguments of the debate that lit up football Twitter on Tuesday.

Van djik > Pique
Alisson > Valdes
Trent > Dani Alves

Alisson VVD and Trent and Robertson get nowhere near this team you guys need to stop being delusional. Stop it.

Maybe Alisson over Valdes. Prime VVD over a 22-year-old Pique, Salah for an older Henry. All arguable but this is my opinion

Someone really said Trent >>> Alves 😭😭😭 https://t.co/uvjY8AZzeq

Alisson > Valdes
Prime VVD > 22-year-old Pique
Mane > 31 year-old Henry
Robertson > Abidal https://t.co/ls0PdeNJ30

Robertson for Abidal
VVD for Pique
Mane for Henry https://t.co/Tlnfz8GWLJ

Lmao the only Barca players making it is Messi, Eto’o, Iniesta, Xavi and Alves.

Allison, VVD, Robertson, Mane, Salah, and Trent easily walking into this starting 11 https://t.co/vr7xKTatje

It’a not unpopular, it’s just true. https://t.co/W9eKNkPFYL

Alisson, Robertson, Van dijk go in for sure. Now mane is in his prime and Henry then wasnt as good as his arsenal days so maybe mane over henry, idk. The first 3 are facts tho
