“I could have made a better move”- Clifford Aboagye opens up on Granada ordeal

Former Ghana youth star, Clifford Aboagye, has admitted he made the wrong move by joining La Liga side Granada after the 2013 FIFA U-20 world cup.

Aboagye was named the 3rd best player of the competition after helping Ghana to a bronze medal.

Several clubs came calling but he chose to join Granada, where he spent 4 years without making a single appearance in the first team.

“I was never given the opportunity to showcase what I had at Granada,” Aboagye said.

“Even after the world cup, I got Granada and I didn’t even go straight to the second team.

“I had to play with the under 19 team.

“Looking back I knew I could have made a better move. I was a young boy with a decision to make and I chose the fact that I wanted to develop.

He left for Mexico in 2017, where he currently plays for Club Tijuana on loan from Atlas.

The 27 year old says the prospect of playing top division football inspired his move to Mexico.

“With Mexico, I wasn’t going to struggle with the language and the contract Atlas was offering me was much better, coupled with the fact that I was going to play in the premier division,” he concluded.

In his time at Atlas, Aboagye made 48 appearances and scored one goal. He spent the 2019/2020 season before making a move to Club Tijuana in January this year.
