U-TURN: Joseph Esso agrees to two-year contract offer from Hearts of Oak

Joseph Esso has agreed to re-sign for Accra Hearts of Oak on a two-year contract, an offer he rejected before being released by the club last week, Citi Sports is reliably informed.

The 23-year-old left the club together with four others after failing to agree to a contract extension with the Phobians. Benjamin Agyare, Bernard Arthur, Abubacar Traore and Christopher Bonney were also released.

Hours after their release, it emerged Esso left because he was only willing to sign a one year extension while the club would only agree to two years. No agreement was found, and Esso opted out.

But the former Ebusua Dwarfs striker’s exit sparked outrage from the Hearts of Oak fans.

The leadership of the clubs’ fans subsequently met with the player’s management in an attempt to convince him to change his mind.

It appears the several meetings have yielded dividends, and Esso has now agreed to take the two year deal.

Citi Sports has been told, it is now up to the club to prepare a two-year contract for the player with new terms that will see him almost double his salary.

Esso, who played 14 games and netted on three occasions in the Premier League last season, joined Hearts from Ebusua Dwarfs in 2018.

He was among Ghana’s best players at the 2019 Wafu Cup of Nations in Senegal where he netted twice to help the side finish as runners-up.
