We are not ready for football to return – Inter Allies Coach

Inter Allies Head Coach, Tony Lokko says his team is not ready for the resumption of football amidst fears of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Though government has begun easing restrictions for certain sectors of the economy, football activities remain suspended despite allowing the Black Maidens and Princesses to train ahead of their qualifiers later this year.

The growing uncertainty over the resumption of football led to the GFA annulling the 2019/2020 Ghana premier league with the new season scheduled to begin in October this year.

Lokko believes the country does not have the necessary measures needed to observe the precautions that have been laid out by Health Practitioners.

“We are not ready for our football to come back,” Lokko said in an interview with BBC Africa.

“I have been communicating with my players and they are also scared, look at the situation, we are all scared of the virus.

“The health materials we are supposed to put in place are not ready and that is the fear of everyone at the moment, he continued.

“We do not have the necessary facilities to observe the medical precautions that have been laid for regular testing of players and technical teams.”

The Ghana Football Association is yet to outline its plans on the safe return to football in the country.

Meanwhile, Ashgold CEO, Emmanuel Frimpong also says he is not prepared to put his players at risk of contracting the virus.

“For now, it is not a good idea – the health of my players is more important,” he told BBC Africa.

“Until there is a solution to this virus, I don’t think I would like to expose my players to the danger. This virus is not a joke.”
