Ghana maintains 46th position in latest FIFA World Ranking

Ghana’s 46th position on the FIFA World Ranking remains unchanged for the month of September after a six month hiatus.

The global order of national teams’ seedings, which is usually updated monthly, had been halted since March due to the Coronavirus Pandemic which disrupted the international match calendar.

However, with games returning for the first time earlier this month, especially across Europe, the ranking has made a return.

The Black Stars’ last competitive appearance was in November last year against Sao Tome and Principe.

The team retained its 46th position which they occupied in March this year, with 1439 and is tied with Costa Rica and one place above Jamaica.

In terms of continental rankings, Ghana is sixth behind Senegal in 20th position, followed by Tunisia in the 26th position, Nigeria in 29th, 2019 AFCON Champions Algeria in the 35th spot, and Morocco in the 43rd spot.

Completing the top ten in Africa is Egypt (51), Cameroon (53), Mali (57) and Congo DR (57).

The Black Stars were expected to return to action in March with an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sudan but the matches had to be postponed due the outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic which has led to the suspension of Football activities in the country.

C.K Akonnor will however oversee his first match as head coach for the Black stars in November when they take on Sudan in the now approved dates for the resumption of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers by the Confederation of African Football.

In preparation for the return to action, the Black Stars are expected to take part in a friendly match next month.
