Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers praises Daniel Amartey’s “first class” mentality

Leicester City Manager, Brendan Rodgers has praised Ghana defender Daniel Amartey’s performance following Leicester’s 0-2 defeat to Arsenal in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The game was Amartey’s first competitive match in almost two years, after suffering setbacks in his recovery from a knee injury suffered in October 2018.

“We’re disappointed with the goals, that was our only criticism, but we had lots of positives. Daniel Amartey with his first game in two years, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Luke Thomas did well too”, Rodgers said after the game.

“Amartey has consistently trained and his mentality is first class. He’s a very honest guy, his defensive qualities are strong and how he lasted the game was very good.”

The 25 year old former FC Copenhagen center back has two years left on his contract and has been linked with a move away from the club, but the performance against Arsenal could offer new hope because of Leicester defensive problems.

Makeshift center-back, Wilfred Ndidi, has been ruled out for up to 12-weeks with an injury he picked up in training before the Arsenal game.

Amartey can fit in at center-back, right full-back, and as a defensive midfielder and could be roped in to help address the problems.
