French champions, Paris Saint-Germain’s summer started off in heartbreaking fashion, and it’s just got worse.

Weeks after they lost the UEFA Champions League final to Bayern Munich, the club has announced that three of their players have tested positive for coronavirus.

“Three PSG-English players are confirmed positive after a Sars CoV2 test and have undergone the appropriate health protocols,” the club said on social media.

“All players and staff will continue to be tested over the next few days.”

Although PSG did not name which players had contracted the disease, reports in France suggested that star player, Neymar had tested positive.

The Brazilian had been on holiday on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

In April, Neymar spoke about his anxiety over the coronavirus-induced break from football.

“Not knowing when I can return [to play] gives me anxiety. I really miss playing, competing, to be in the club environment with my PSG teammates.

“I really miss football. I’m sure the fans also want to see everyone back on the pitch as soon as possible. I hope the decision comes out as soon as possible.”

Winger Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes were the other two named as having contracted COVID-19 in L’Equipe’s report.

PSG are set to start their league campaign on September 10 against Lens, however, it’s unclear whether the positive tests will affect the fixture.

Four positive tests at Marseille forced their opening match against St. Etienne to be postponed.
