“We have no real strikers” – GFA Technical Director’s brutal assessment of Black Starlets

Technical Director for the Ghana Football Association, Bernhard Lippert, has lamented the country’s lack of competent goalscorers after watching the country’s U-17 team crash out of the WAFU U-17 championships ongoing in Togo.

The Black Starlets lost 3-1 in their second group game to Cote D’Ivoire to exit the competition, having already drawn 1-1 with Nigeria in the opening game of the 3-team group.

Lippert gave a damning assessment of the game afterwards.

“I’m not happy with our performance. We slept in the first half hour. We couldn’t play our match because we left too many spaces in the midfield,” he began.

“You saw in the second half also that we had a real problem scoring goals; we don’t have the kind of strikers who are real strikers.

“There’s a lot of work to do. This team today did not present itself as a team,” he concluded in an interview after the game.
