GPL: Hearts of Oak thrash 10-man Bechem United 6-1

Hearts of Oak brought an end to Bechem United’s unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League in grand style at Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday with an impressive 6-1 win.

Bechem United started the stronger of the two teams and appealed for a penalty in the 10th minute as Hafiz Konkoni was brought down in the box but the referee ignored the calls for play to continue.

The away side ended the first half with 10-men after Emmanuel Asante was sent off for dissent.

Abdul Manaf Umar scored the opening goal of the game for the home side in the 52nd minute before Victor Aidoo came off the bench to increase the lead for the Phobians in the 60th minute.

The former Samatex forward found the back of the net again in the 73rd minute to give hearts a 3-0 advantage.

The home side were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute after Daniel Afriyie was brought down by the Bechem United goalkeeper in the box.

Frederick Ansah Botchway was up to the task and scored from the spot to give Hearts a 4-0 lead.

The away side pulled one back through Prince Adu Kwabena in the 86th minute.

Kosta Papic’s men continued with the onslaught as Abdul Lawali made it 5-1 for the Phobians in the 88th minute.

Benjamin Afutu Kotey made it six for Hearts in added time.

The win moves Hearts of Oak into second position on the Ghana Premier League log.
