Accra Hearts of Oak moved to within 2 points of league leaders Karela United with an impressive 2-0 win over Techiman Eleven Wonders in Accra on Sunday night.
John Moosie’s 11th minute own goal, set the Kosta Papic’s men on the way before Victor Aidoo wrapped up the win the second goal of the evening, just 5 minutes into the second half.
The Phobians started the stronger side, forcing Moosie into early saves from Victor Aidoo and captain Fatawu Mohammed.
But the Wonders’ resistance only lasted 11 minutes before Hearts of Oak broke the deadlock.
The menacing Mohammed found the busy Umar Manaf with a pinpoint cross. Manaf’s connection came off the upright, hit the scrambling Moosie in the back and went back in. Manaf strolled to the corner flag to celebrate, with the few but noisy Hearts fans in the stadium.
Hearts went into the break with the 1-0 lead, despite a late resurgence from Wonders, with Samuel Boakye forcing Richmond Ayi into a fabulous near post save just before half time.
At the start of the second half, Victor Aidoo latched onto a pass from Ansah Botchway before unleashing a fabulous short that flew into the bottom far corner for 2-0.
It was the striker’s 4th goal in just three games and he has now scored in each of Hearts of Oak’s last 3 games.
Papic brought on Patrick Razak and Abednego Tetteh as he chased more goals but in the end, a 2-0 win was enough to lift the Phobians into the top 4 for the first time this season.
