Asante Kotoko’s Brazilian midfielder, Fabio Gama, has given his seal of approval to jollof rice and he has stated that the meal is his go-to dish whenever he has to meet his food needs.

He made this revelation on Thursday during an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM.

The interview was the first major one Gama was having any media house in Ghana and it focused on his time with Kotoko so far and the reason why he decided to come to Ghana to play in the Ghana Premier League.

Gama said that after an initial period of adjusting to Ghanaian life and culture, which includes food, he had now become familiar with meal options available to him but his preferred choice was jollof.

“Things have not been bad at all for me ever since I got in. The weather is the same as in Brazil but what I initially found difficult to handle was the food.

Jollof rice: Fabio Gama’s favourite

Ghanaian food is very different from Brazilian food but now I am used to eating what is cooked in Ghana. My favourite is jollof and I think it is really good.”

On the topic of life in Ghana, Gama said that he was surprised at what he had personally discovered so far. He explained that the reality he was witnessing on a daily basis was very different from what he perceived concerning Ghana and the African continent.

“It was not difficult bringing the family with me. We saw it as a new opportunity to see a new country and we wanted to come and see Africa for ourselves.

Now, we have a better view of things are on the continent because you often hear things being said about African countries but when you see and experience things for ourselves, you see how different things are in reality.”

Gama and his Kotoko team mates face Medeama in Week 21 of the Ghana Premier League and they will be hoping to win and keep their place at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
