‘We should have won 9-0 against Bechem’- Mariano Barreto

Asante Kotoko’s head coach Mariano Barreto, believes the Porcupine Warriors should have beaten Bechem United by at least 9-0 considering the plethora of chances his team created in the 4-0 victory.

Kotoko’s Brazilian players produced magical displays to help the Porcupine Warriors to a thumping 4-0 win over Bechem United in an outstanding Ghana Premier League game in Obuasi on Wednesday.

Ishmail Ganiyu opened the floodgates at the Len Clay Stadium before Fabio Gama’s neat finish double the lead on the stroke of half time. Francis Andy Kumi made it 3-0 on the hour mark before substitute Michael Vinicius, making his debut for Kotoko, sealed the victory with a rebound effort late on.

Coach Mariano Barreto’s first game in charge of Kotoko came with high expectations and the players did not disappoint, producing brilliant football to easily dispatch Bechem.

The Portuguese trainer admits his players played good football at times but he was far from pleased with their finishing.

“I’m happy with the way they tried to make things happen but I think if they take so many of the clear goal-scoring chances, it should be 8-0 or 9-0,” he said during the post-match interview.

“They tried to show in the game what we have been working on in training. But there are so many things we need to improve on.

“Just because we won 4-0 doesn’t mean we are heroes. We have no time. After the match, we will have two training sessions on Thursday because we have a big match in the weekend and there are many things we need to improve,” he said.
