‘WAFA stopped us from training on their pitch before Liberty game’ – Kotoko coach Barreto

Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Mariano Barreto has claimed that WAFA did not allow the team to train on their pitch ahead of their Match Day 25 game on Saturday against Liberty Professionals.

Liberty have been forced to play their home matches at the WAFA Stadium in Sogakope after the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park was banned.

But it appears WAFA are not particularly extending the courtesy to visiting teams to use their facilities, with Barreto claiming that WAFA coach Prosper Nartey asked them not to use his pitch for training ahead of the Liberty game.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Barreto called for respect and fair play during Ghana Premier League games.

“On Friday, we were not allowed to train here, it is something that made me ashamed because fair play and respect is something that needs to be observed.” Barreto said.

“Someone didn’t respect us, they allowed us to come here and when the team was here, they did not give permission to train.

“This is a football country and there are some things that need to be preserved, that is respect and fair play.

“When the other teams come to Kumasi to play against Kotoko, we receive them very well, but when we go away to other teams for instance Eleven Wonders, they always cause a lot of problem at the gate.

“The match commissioners need to prevent these things, the game is not war” He said.

Kotoko will host WAFA next in the Ghana Premier League on Match day 25 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
