The draw for the 2021 MTN FA Cup Preliminary round was held in Accra on Tuesday.

The draw saw 44 Division Two clubs  and 48 Division One clubs go into the hat for places in the Round of 64 and the chance to face teams from the Ghana Premier League.

The draw was carried live on Max TV and was also streamed live on the Ghana Football Association’s Facebook page and it was supervised by the Ghana FA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo and the chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur.

Draw format

The teams were placed in ten zones created on the basis of team locations. The GFA said that this format was chosen to prevent teams from travelling long distances to honour the matches.

According to the GFA, the participating teams will get an amount of GHS 1,500 and the funds will increase as they progress through the competition.

The Association also said that between the preliminary round and the round of 16, matches that end in draws after regulation time will be settled by penalty shootouts.

However, extra time will be used from the quarter final onwards.

The preliminary round of the MTN FA Cup will take place on the weekend of May 7.
