“The Price of Fasting”: King Faisal coach Kasim Gokyildiz blames team’s draw on Ramadan

King Faisal’s head coach, Kasim Gokiyildiz has blamed the late goal they conceded against Karela United in the Ghana Premier League on nine of his players fasting during the  match.

Title-chasing Karela United battled back late to record a 1-1 draw against King Faisal in a match-day 22 fixture Sunday afternoon.

Zubairu Ibrahim scored for the successive game to put Faisal ahead in the 17th minute of the game at Ohene Ameyaw Park.

The hosts created many opportunities but failed to extend their lead as the first half ended 1-0.

Karela came back strongly after recess and dominated for large periods.

With just a minute from time, forward Maxwell Boakye – who came off the bench to score in the last game at home to Hearts – netted a deserved leveller to hand Karela a share of the spoils, denying Faisal a first win in four home matches.

After the game, King Faisal’s Turkish coach took to facebook to blame the late equalizer on nine of his players observing Ramadan.

“We couldn’t prevent the match that we took almost 75 minutes ahead of the match, with 2 minutes before the end of the match. We paid the price of 9 players fasting,” he wrote on facebook.
