European champions Chelsea kicked off their preseason with an emphatic 6-1 win over English Championship side, Peterborough United on Saturday.

Peterborough who finished second in League One last season were no match for the Blues side, which included players eager to catch the eye of manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of the start of the season.

Goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic put Chelsea in a 2-0 first half lead before a hat-trick from second-half substitute Hakim Ziyech and Armando Broja gave the Champions League winners a comprehensive lead.

Despite conceding a consolation goal, manager Thomas Tuchel will be pleased with the effort of his team which is still missing key stars who progressed to the late stages of their various international competitions including Brazil’s Thiago Silva, England’s Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

EURO 2020 winners Jorginho and Emerson, are also still on holiday after their triumph with Italy.

Ghana’s Baba Rahman, whose Chelsea career has been blighted by injury was involved, as well as Ross Barkley, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Hudson-Odoi whose recent trip to Ghana has certainly won him a lot more admirers here also featured in today’s match along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
