Ghana’s Black Stars have been drawn to face The Atlas Lions of Morocco in Group C of the 2021 AFCON tournament to be played in Cameroon in January next year.

The group also has the likes of Comoros and 2017 hosts, Gabon.

The draw was held in the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde on Tuesday evening and the event was attended by several high-profile personalities in African football including CAF President, Patrice Motsepe and some former footballers like Asamoah Gyan, Didier Drogba, Rabah Madjer, Samuel Eto’o, Rigobert Song and Roger Milla.

Ghana went into the draw in Pot 2 with likes of Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire and the Black Stars were always to face some of the continent’s top nations per the workings of the draw.

Defending AFCON champions, Algeria, were placed in Group E together with Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea and 2015 winners, Cote d’Ivoire.

Hosts Cameroon went into Group A where they will face Burkina Faso in the opening match of the tournament and then, Ethiopia and Cape Verde.

2019 hosts, Egypt, will have to contend with Nigeria, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in Group D.

The tournament will take place between January 9 and February 6, 2022 and it is happening a year later due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

When do the Black Stars play their group stages in the 2021 AFCON tournament?

Ghana will open its run in the tournament against Morocco on January 10, 2022 at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

They will return to the same venue on January 14 to face Gabon but they will travel to Garoua to conclude their group stage run against Comoros on January 18.
