The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi has revealed  that all 14 athletes, coaches and officials who represented Ghana at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have received their per diem.

Each athlete received $100 as daily allowance for participating at the Olympic Games while officials and coaches received $120 each per day, that’s according to Peter Twumasi.

Having spent 42 days in Japan throughout the competition period, all the athletes are expected to have an accumulated allowance of $4,200 while the officials and coaches received $5,040 each.

Professsor Twumasi says government is committed to ensuring that all the athletes are well catered for.

“All the athletes and officials have received their per diem just like we did in Morocco.”  Prof Twumasi said in an interview with Accra based Angel FM.

“The days started from the pre camping tournament through to the competition period and I think for each athlete, it’s about 42 days so you multiply the days by their daily bonuses of $100.

“We have calculated each athlete’s money and they have it. What they don’t have is the bonuses for the medal zones.

He also revealed the reward package any athlete who wins a medal for the country.

“For that everybody knows that winning a gold medal, the prize money is $5,000, if you win a silver medal, you get $4,000 while a bronze medal attracts $3,000”.

“At every stage you reach at the competition, there is a package for you so it’s a very transparent package and everybody is aware of it”, the NSA boss revealed.

This means 20-year old Samuel Takyi, who secured Bronze after reaching the semi-final will receive $3,000 as a reward.

Meanwhile, Joseph Paul Amoah missed out on the men’s 200m final after finishing 4th in his semi-final.

This leaves only the men’s 4x100m relays as the only event Ghana remains in at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
