Captain of Ghana’s senior women’s national team, Black Queens, Elizabeth Addo, has been left out of the team’s squad for the upcoming Aisha Buhari Cup.

Head Coach, Mercy Tagoe named her 23-woman squad for the competition which will serve as preparation for the AWCON qualifier against rivals Nigeria next month, and Addo is the most notable absentee.

It is unclear why Addo has been left out, but strong reports of a rift between the player and the Ghana Football Association has been suggested as the reason.

The list is also without forward Sandra Owusu Ansah and defender Linda Eshun.

Janet Egyir features in the 23, fresh from winning the WAFU Zone B competition with Hasaacas Ladies.

Ghana’s Black Queens, two-time runners-up of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, will take on Cameroon and South Africa in Group B, while hosts Nigeria face Morocco and Mali are in Group A.
