“Jordan does not lack confidence” – Andre Ayew defends brother

Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew says his brother, Jordan Ayew, will come good, despite his recent run of poor goalscoring form for club and country.

The Crystal Palace forward has come under scrutiny for his recent goal drought for the Black Stars of Ghana with his last goal dating back to November 2019 when he scored a penalty in the 2021 AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

Despite his goal drought, the 28-year-old forward delivered one of his best performances for Ghana in the 1-0 win over South Africa on Sunday.

Addressing the press after game, Andre Ayew stated that the team will need Jordan Ayew to start scoring soon if Ghana are to qualify for Qatar 2022.

“It is a matter of getting the ball at the back of the net and it is difficult for him to score in this moment.

“He knows it, we all know it but we also know he can score a lot of goals so he has keep working and you can see from his actions that he has not lost confidence but in front of goal hehas missed a few.

“We need him to find the back of the net and if we are to go far, we will need him to start scoring,” he said.

Ghana edged South Africa to top spot in Group G and will go into next month’s draw for the play-offs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
