Accra Senior Open Tennis Champs: Asamoah Gyan knocked out; George Heckson floors Nana Sam

Former Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan has been knocked out of the men’s 35-44 Singles event at the ongoing Accra Senior Open Tennis Championships.

Gyan, who made the final last year, lost his quarterfinal match to Richard Odum Mensah 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets.

In the other games of the men’s 35-44 singles, Felix Kabutey beat Richmond Kotey 5-7,6-4,12-10, while George Heckson breezed past Nana Sam Awortwi 6-0,6-0 in what was a one-sided contest.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 30-39 Doubles Linda Sedinam and Precious Nunana beat Emefa Nukpenu and Dela Tanson 6-1,6-1 in the most exciting match of the day.

In the Men’s 65+ Doubles Semi finals, Kofi Boakye Agyei and Arnold Addy beat Abraham Odoi and Nii Osam Sackey 6-2,6-0.

Also, in the women’s 40+ Singles semifinals, Mariam Mahmoud beat Tina Yamark 7-5,6-3. Yamark also teamed up with Tina Tagoe in the Women’s 40+ Doubles to eliminate Dorcas Sowah and Emily Stoiber 6-2,6-0.

In the men’s 45-55 singles Nana Poku defeated Nana Kofi Boakye 6-3,7-5 while Maximilliano beat David Kisseh 7-6(9),2-0 rtd. In the 1/8 stage of the men’s 55-64 Singles Masafumi Tanimoto beat George De-Souza 1-6,6-3,10-7.
