Former IBF Lightweight Champion, Richard Commey says his ambition to become a two-time World Champion has not changed despite his defeat to Vasiliy Lomachenko at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

In a lightweight bout between former world champions, Vasiliy Lomachenko dropped and outboxed Richard Commey to secure a unanimous decision win with the judges scoring it 117-110, 119-108, 119-108.

The 34-year old started the fight strongly, landing a few heavy punches, but that perceived dominance didn’t last long, with Lomachenko exhibiting great character and skill to outclass the Ghanaian.

The Ukrainian, slowly came into the fight from the second round, with his hard jabs and incredible speed, which Commey struggled to cope with as he was utterly dominated.

Commey, who apologised to Ghanaians for not doing enough to win says he still aims to become a two-time World Champion in future.

“The aim and the ambition is still the same. “I want to be a two time World Champion and as far as my people believe in me, I will always represent them.”

Richard Commey now stands at (30-4,27 KOs) with Vasiliy Lomachenko rising up to (16-2, 11 KOs). Lomachenko will possibly have a crack at the WBA(Super), WBO and the IBF World titles held by George Kambosos of which he has shown keen interest.
