Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder, Frederick Ansah Botchway has admitted that the Phobians were subpar in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Algerian club, JS Saoura last weekend.

Despite leading 2-0 from the first leg in Accra, Hearts of Oak crashed out of the competition after a 4-0 loss in Algeria.

This was the second straight round in which Hearts had suffered a humbling defeat in Algeria, after the 6-1 loss to WAC.

In response to a tweet from a fan commending his effort despite the embarrassing loss to Saoura, Ansah Botchway admitted that they weren’t good enough at the weekend.

He added that the players were hurt by the manner of the loss but were focused on turning around their fortunes.

“Umm thanks and we are pleading with the Phobia family to forgive us for we know we flopped and admit, we feel the pain more but that’s not the end. Soon we will turn the coin and smile together again as one family. We Never Say Die,” he tweeted.

Aside from their exit from both CAF competitions, Hearts have had an underwhelming start to the league season.

Three draws and a loss from their first four games have left the defending champions bottom of the Ghana Premier League table.

But with two games in hand, Samuel Boadu’s side will be hoping to turn things around when they return to league action on Thursday against Elmina Sharks.
