Parliament set to begin probe into Ghana’s poor Afcon performance

The Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture will on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, begin its inquiry into Ghana’s poor performance at the recently ended Afcon in Cameroon.

Ghana’s Black Stars recorded their worst performance at the competition which resulted in a Group stage exit.

Ghana finished bottom of Group C while failing to win a single game.

The Committee is expected to invite key stakeholders from Ghana’s contingent that represented the nation at the competition.

Representatives from the Ghana Football Association as well as Black Stars captain Andre Ayew are among those to be questioned by the Committee.

Chairman of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee of Parliament Johnson Kwaku Adu elaborated on what they were seeking to achieve with the inquiry.

“Ghanaians were expecting  better performance from the Black stars and that cannot come from the sky.

“The GFA, the technical team, the Ministry and the National Sports Authority have the mandate to ensure that the Black Stars perform better.

“If they perform abysmally it behooves on the committee to draw these oldies before us to find out why we performed the way we did.

“After the investigation we would know exactly what happened to and suggest some remedies,”

The committee is expected to come out with a report which will be presented to the Speaker and also debated in the house.
