Sulley Muntari reveals why he joined Accra Hearts of Oak

New Hearts of Oak signing, Sulley Muntari says his relationship with the Hearts of Oak hierarchy played a big part in his decision to revive his football career by joining the defending Ghana Premier League Champions.

The former Inter Milan, AC Milan and Portsmouth midfielder, has signed a one-year deal with the Phobians ahead of the second round of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season.

The 37-year old also revealed his son convinced him to return to the football pitch after being without a club since 2019.

“The decision to play now is my son, but the decision to join Hearts of Oak was easy,” Muntari said.

“I live in Accra and whenever I come for holidays I train with Hearts.

“I met Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe and Togbe Afede XIV, his friends and some of the players too.

“I have been watching Hearts for a long time and I know a little about the team, so it wasn’t a hard decision to make, but the push was my son who asked me start playing again because he wants to come to stadium and watch me play.”

Hearts of Oak will be relying on the former Liberty Professionals midfielder to rescue their season.

The 2020/2021 defending Ghana Premier League Champions currently lie 5th on the table with 23 points after 14 games with a game in hand against Kumasi Asante Kotoko who are at the summit of the table with 33 points.

The Phobians face Accra Great Olympics in the Ga Mantse derby on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium and many Hearts of Oak fans will be looking to see Muntari feature.
