2022 WCQ: ‘The booing is normal’ – Otto Addo defends under fire Jordan Ayew

Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, has jumped to the defense of forward, Jordan Ayew, who was the subject of fan frustration in Ghana’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

The Crystal Palace forward was heavily booed by his own supporters at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with fans frustrated at his output as Ghana drew goalless against the Super Eagles.

When questioned on what he felt about the jeers towards Ayew, Otto Addo brushed it aside, insisting the 30 year old has a good game.

“The booing I think is for me, no problem. I think it’s normal. Jordan played well and had a very good performance especially in the first half,” he said.

A lot of one against ones, and at the end, I don’t know if they didn’t see it, but he was tired.

“What they [fans] don’t know is we watch a lot of matches – me and my squad. I think we know what each of them is capable of, he added.

Jordan Ayew, who lasted 88 minutes passed a late fitness test after only recovering from Covid-19 two days before the match.

Ghana face Nigeria again on Tuesday in Abuja with a place at the Qatar 2022 World Cup on the line.
