The new Technical Adviser of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton paid a visit to Ghana’s Women’s U-17 team, the Black Maidens ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Senegal on Sunday.

Chris Hughton was accompanied by Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku and Black Maidens Management Committee Chairman, Nana Sarfo Oduro.

‘’It’s a pleasure for me to see you. At a young age, football was my passion and I was lucky to have a long career to play professional football so I understand where you are now, the passion you have to play. I want to wish you the very best today and I am sure you will give everything,’’ the former Brighton and Norwich manager said.

GFA President, Kurt Okraku congratulated the players on maintaining the levels of focus that helped them make it through to this stage of the qualifiers and also gave them a 1-0 win over Senegal in the first leg.

‘’I am very happy to be here to show my support. I remember when we met in Prampram, I asked of you to make our nation great and strong, very dedicated towards the course and listen to your coaches. Ever since I left, you have continued to put in the right level of effort in your attempt and desire to make our dear country great and strong,” he said.

“We have had the best of preparations and I believe we are ready to make our nation great and strong. You have the full support of the people of our dear country and my support and may the almighty help you to make our nation great and strong.”

Goals from captain, Georgina Ayisha Aoyem, Princess Owusu and Abdulai Karima gave the Maidens a 3-0 win on the day and a 4-0 win on aggregate.

The Maidens will now face Guinea in the next round of qualifiers.

Hughton’s first task as Technical Director is to help the Black Stars make it through their two-legged tie against Nigeria and book a spot at the 2022 World Cup.
