The real reason behind Felix Afena-Gyan rejoining AS Roma’s U-19 team

Ghanaian teenage sensation, Felix Afena-Gyan has not been demoted to AS Roma’s Primavera (U-19 team) despite rumours that he was sent back to train with the junior side for misconduct after he was spotted at a party.

The 19-year-old was absent in AS Roma’s 1-0 win over Spezia, as he is recovering from a hip injury he sustained in the game against Hellas Verona.

After the game against Spezia, the teenager was spotted at a night club with some friends, including his Primavera mates.

Despite reports that Afena-Gyan’s decision to party while nursing an injury angered José Mourinho and his backroom staff, it appears that earlier reports of the demotion are not true.

According to an ace sports journalist and now co-host of Citi FM’s Breakfast Show, Godfred Akoto-Boafo, Felix Afena-Gyan was sent to the Primavera team “as part of his recovery process and not as a punishment” for taking the decision to party.

The teenager will be training with AS Roma’s Team B for a while as he recovers and will be eased back into the first team, where he has seemingly been favoured by José Mourinho, starting the last two games before picking up the injury.

The injury also puts him in doubt for Black Stars selection ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria later this month.
