The Ghana Football Association is in discussions with their Japanese counterparts to participate in a 4-team tournament in Japan, as part of preparations towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament, which has been fixed for June 10 to June 14, 2022, will feature host nation Japan, as well as Chile and Tunisia.

However, with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers also scheduled to begin in early June, the GFA are also engaging the Confederation of African Football to move their second group game against the Central African Republic to an earlier date.

The Black Stars will open the AFCON 2023 qualifiers with a home game against Madagascar on June 1 before facing the Central African Republic on June 5 in their second game.

However, the GFA believe there’s not enough time between that game and their first game in Japan on June 10, to be able to cater for travel logistics, as well as according the team enough rest on arrival to be in the best shape for the tournament.

Ghana will face Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea in their 2022 World Cup group, with the tournament scheduled for November, 2022.
