Thunder Queens FC player, Akyiaa Asante has been fined GHS500 by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for verbally assaulting a match official.

Another Queens player, Gifty Osei, was also fined GHS500 by the GFA.

Akyiaa Asante was accused of verbally assaulting centre referee, Christiana Owusua Amponsah, in a match against SeaLions FC Limited, at the Nduom Sports Complex.

The alleged unsporting behaviour towards the match official reportedly took place in the 61st minute of the Women’s Premier League, Southern Zone match.

The player pleaded guilty to the charges against her but insisted that she did not insult the referee, in her defence statement.

She argued that she was encouraging her teammates after her team conceded a penalty during the game.

Gifty Osei also claimed that she only ran onto the pitch to support her teammates.

The Disciplinary Committee, however, found both players guilty and fined them GHS500 each.

They were also warned that further acts of misconduct would result in more severe punishment.
