The Ghana U-20 Women’s football team, the Black Princesses, have been drawn against the USA, Japan and the Netherlands in Group D of the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be hosted in Costa Rica.

The draw for the tournament, which is set to begin on August 10, was held on Thursday, and it produced some intriguing matches.

The Black Princesses were placed in Pot 3 prior to the draw, and they were placed in a difficult group that included two previous winners of the competition, which began in 2002.

The United States have won the trophy three times, making them the most successful country, while Japan are the current holders, having won the last edition in 2018.

This means Ghana must produce their very best in order to advance from the knockout stage. Ghana will be making their sixth appearance, and they have failed to advance past the group stage in the previous five.

Nigeria, the other African team to qualify for the tournament, were also placed in a difficult group with France, Canada, and the Republic of Korea.

Ghana qualified after impressing in the qualifiers, overcoming Zambia, Uganda and Ethiopia to secure a sixth consecutive World Cup appearance.

The tournament will end on August 20.

Full draw:

Group A: Costa Rica, Australia, Spain, Brazil

Group B: Germany, Colombia, New Zealand, Mexico

Group C: France, Nigeria, Canada, Korea Republic

Group D: Japan, Netherlands, Ghana, USA
