AFCON 2023Q: Richard Ofori and Andy Yiadom resume training ahead of CAR game

Goalkeeper Richard Ofori and defender Andy Yiadom have boosted the Black Stars squad following late arrivals in camp for the June fixtures.

The duo missed Ghana’s opening win against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) but are now available for the next Group E fixture away to the Central African Republic (CAR) on Sunday as well as the 2022 edition of the four-nation Kirin Cup Soccer tournament in Japan.

Ofori was excused to honour a league match with Orlando Pirates in the South African league last Monday before joining up with his international teammates while Reading FC right-back Yiadom was a late inclusion by coach Otto Addo.

The Black Stars – after Wednesday night’s emphatic victory in Cape Coast – held a recovery session at the Accra Sports Stadium with the duo heavily involved in the sessions.

VfL Bochum winger Christopher Antwi-Adjei remains the only called-up player yet to report. He has been confirmed to be joining the squad for the Kirin tournament where Ghana will be facing hosts Japan in Kobe on June 10 and Chile or Tunisia in the final or third-place play-off four days later in Osaka.

The Black Stars’ next game in the Afcon 2023 qualifiers against the CAR comes off at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Angola at 13:00 GMT on Sunday, June 5. Barring any late change in plans, the team will depart Accra for Luanda on Friday.
