WAFA have been relegated from Ghana Premier League after six years in the top-flight.

The renowned football academy went into the final day of the season needing to win while hoping other results would go their way. But they were beaten 1-0 on Sunday by Karela in Nzema-Aiyinase.

Midfielder Umar Bashir scored the only in the second half to send his former club to the second-tier.

Real Tamale United meanwhile, recorded a surprise 4-1 win over Hearts of Oak in Accra to confirm their stay in the GPL for next season.

A brace from Ronald Frimpong were supplemented by a David Abagna goal and an own goal from Mohammed Alhassan to condemn Hearts of Oak to their 4th successive defeat of the season.

Eleven Wonders were also relegated on the last day, despite winning 2-1 at home to Aduana Stars.

King Faisal’s 2-1 victory against Legon Cities meant Wonders still went down.

However, with Ashantigold set to be demoted, it is speculated that only two teams would be relegated, a scenario that could see only the bottom two -Elmina Sharks and WAFA relegated, while Wonders stay up.
