‘He’s doing some good things’ -Asamoah Gyan defends Afena-Gyan

June 6, 2022
Reading Time: 1 min read

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has backed new Black Stars striker Felix Afena-Gyan after the youngster came under attack for his performance against the Central African Republic in Sunday’s AFCON 2023 qualifier.

The 19-year-old made his international debut at any level just about some three months ago – in the crucial Fifa World Cup playoffs against Nigeria.

Afena-Gyan has so far bagged four caps with a goal to show.

But the youngster – tipped to take up the shoes of the legendary striker – is beginning to come under the cosh especially after failing to impress in his latest outing – the 1-1 draw away to Central African Republic in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers on Sunday.

Offering his observation under a Twitter trend topic on the AS Roma youngster’s performance, Asamoah Gyan posted:

“He [Felix Afena-Gyan] is doing some good things up front.

“His hold-up play is not bad. All the team needs to do is to have confidence in him and supply the balls anytime he makes a run through channels.”

“Striker gives up when he runs a lot and there there is no supply. Midfielders have to take risks,” he added.

Afena-Gyan is in line to make it to the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar in November.
