Wimbledon: Betway’s key odds behind Round 1

June 27, 2022
Reading Time: 3 mins read

The oldest tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon, makes a glorious return on Monday, 27th June and it promises to be just as great.

Some of the very best tennis players in the round will gather to wrestle for the prestigious trophy when it is all said and done.

The world might witness some huge aspects but will most probably be treated to long hours of beautiful strokes.

Ahead of the first round, Betway takes a look at some interesting matchups.

Casper Ruud v Albert Ramos-Vinolas

Casper Ruud looks to put his French open failure behind him as he takes on Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Monday.

Ruud was outclassed by Rafael Nadal in the French open final, leading to the legend’s 14th title win in that competition.

The Norwegian now comes into this tournament as the third seed and is highly favoured by many to make a deep run in this showcase.

Ruud’s chances of winning this match stands at 1.20, while that of the Spaniard Albert stands at 4.60.

Novak Djokovic v Kwon Soon-Woo

Novak Djokovic is the defending champion of this tournament and will hope to successfully defend his title.

To be on his way back to the final, he will look to make a statement victory against South Korean Kwon Soon-Woo on Monday.

The Serbian fell to Nadal in the recently ended French open quarter-final and will be looking to put that setback behind him.

He is on pace to win the first round according to Betway with his odds priced at 1.01 whilst that of Kwon stands at a whopping 18.00.

Jan-Lennard Struff v Carlos Alcaraz

Spain’s young sensation, Carlos Alcaraz is looking to make his mark in this tournament as he takes on German Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round.

At just 19 years of age, Alcaraz has already won five titles and the inclusion of the Wimbledon to his resume will be a huge boost to his young career.

Struff is currently ranked as low as 158th in the ATP and will look to move further up the slots with a victory on Monday.

Alcaraz currently has a 1.24 chance of winning according to Betway whilst Struff has a 4.10 chance of causing an upset.

Andy Murray v James Duckworth

The 2016 Wimbledon winner, Andy Murray, will be looking to make his way back to the top of tennis as he takes on James Duckworth in round 1 on Monday.

At one point in his career, Murray was mentioned alongside Djokovic, Nadal and Federer but has now sank as low as 51st in the ATP rankings.

A good result against the 77th-ranked Duckworth will most probably help his cause.

Murray currently has 1.19 chance of winning the match according to Betway whilst James Duckworth has 4.80.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Alexander Ritschard

Fourth seed Tsitsipas hopes to make a run to his first singles Wimbledon final and will look to start with a big win against Alexander Ritschard.

Ritschard on the other hand, comes without a big name and will be looking to change that in this prestigious tournament.

Tsitsipas is highly favoured to win the game according to Betway with his odds currently priced at 1.04 whilst that of Ritschard stands at 12.00.

Iga Swiatek v Jana Fett

In the women’s division, Iga Swiatek will be looking to continue her amazing run in the sport as she takes on Jana Fett in the first round.

Swiatek comes into this tournament as the winner of the French open after successfully beating Coco Gauff in the final.

She is seen as a huge favorite to win this showcase as she holds the number one spot in the Women’s ATP rankings.

According to Betway, she has 1.01 odds of winning currently whilst that of Jana stands at 12.00.

Serena Williams v Harmony Tan

Serena Williams aims to start her return to tennis on a good note as she takes on Harmony Tan in the first round.

She comes into this competition with a rank as low as 1204 as at 20th June, 2022. To bring her legacy back to life, she may need to go all the way in this competition.

The 40-year-old has 1.26 odds of winning whilst Tan has 3.50 odds of taking this one.
