Noah Lyles broke a 26-year-old American record as he won the men’s 200-meter final at the 2022 World Athletics Championships on Thursday in Eugene, Oregon.

Lyles, who ran a 19.31, led a United States sweep as Kenneth Bednarek (19.77) and Erriyon Knighton (19.80) finished second and third, respectively.

The U.S. men also swept the 100-meter dash on July 16, led by Fred Kerley.

Michael Johnson owned the previous American record at 19.32, set on Aug. 1, 1996.

Lyles, 25, also won the event at the 2019 World Championships but took bronze last summer at the Tokyo Olympics.

He now owns the third-fastest time in history behind Usain Bolt’s 19.19 and Yohan Blake’s 19.26.

Third-place finisher Knighton, 18, became the youngest individual sprint medalist ever at a world championships, according to NBC Sports.

The U.S. was shut out of the podium in the women’s 200m Thursday as Jamaica’s Sherika Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce went 1-2, followed by Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith
