Play-off tournament to decide replacement for demoted Inter Allies in Division One League

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says a mini competition will be played to find a replacement for Inter Allies in the Division One League (DOL).

Allies were demoted to the Division Two League after they were found guilty, along with Ashgold, of match manipulation on the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The GFA has announced that the teams that finished as runners-up in the three regional blocs in Zone 3, in the Division Two League, will play each other, with the winner replacing Inter Allies in the DOL.

Greater Accra runners-up, Na God FC; Volta Region runners-up, Agbogba FC; and the loser of a match between Port City FC/Abuakwa Susubribi FC from the Eastern Region will participate in the playoff tournament.

Inter Allies had earlier appealed the decision taken by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee to demote them but that appeal was dismissed by the Appeals Committee.

This paved the way for the GFA to come out with the modalities to find their replacement for the 2022/23 league season.

“The three teams will engage in an all-play-all league format after which the winner makes it to the Division One League,” the GFA’s statement said.

“The fixtures will be as follows: Team A vs Team B, Team B vs Team C and Team C vs Team A.”

The GFA added that a draw will be held to determine which of the teams fill each of the three spots in the playoffs.
