The Black Princesses suffered a heavy defeat in Alajuela as they were convincingly beaten 3-0 by the United States of America.

A quick transition and some sleek passes carved opened Ghana’s back lines before Michelle Cooper connected with her head from a Laney Rouse cross.

Moments later, Jacqueline Owusu was sent off after a VAR check for a foul on Korbin Albert to reduce Ghana to 10 players on the pitch.

Soon after the red card, Michelle Cooper turned provider as Alyssa Thompson doubled the lead for the USA before half-time.

After the break, Ally Sentnor increased the goal margin to three to deny Ghana any hope of a comeback.

Ghana endured another red card scare after Cecilia Nyama was initially sent off but a VAR check overturned the decision to a yellow card.

A series of attacks were launched by the USA but the brilliance of Grace Banwaa kept Ghana in the game as they settled for a 3-0 defeat in the opening game.

Ghana’s quest for a spot in the knockout phase of the competition doesn’t come any easier as they face Japan in the next game of Group D on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
