2023 CHAN Qualifiers: No reason for Ghana to be afraid of Nigeria

Accra Great Olympics head coach, Yaw Preko, is very confident of Ghana’s qualification chances ahead of the second leg fixture against Nigeria in the 2023 CHAN qualifiers.

The 2023 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) takes place in Algeria next year and Ghana’s Black Galaxies hold a 2-0 lead over Nigeria heading to the second leg of the final round of qualifying on Saturday, September 3 in Abuja.

Speaking to Citi Sports in an interview after leading Olympics to win the GHALCA G6 Tournament, the former national team winger highlighted his assertion that the Black Galaxies had enough in the tank overcome their hosts.

“The Nigerians are not better than us. They are not better than us in terms of us football, so I don’t see the reason why we have to be afraid. I coached in Nigeria for a season and I can say that they are not better than us. They (Black Galaxies) have a good trainer and they have a very good technical team so I am not scared.”

The CHAN is a biannual football tournament where only players competing in national leagues on the African continent are eligible to compete in.

Preko has coached Accra Hearts of Oak and Nigerian league side Ifeanyi Ubah since retiring as a player who played for the likes of Fenerbache and Galatsaray.
