Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil has missed a game for the first time in the 2022-2023 Season after picking a hamstring injury.

The injury was confirmed in the lead up to Genk’s matchup against KAA Gent in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League; Genk went on to beat Gent 1-0.

Paintsil was in line to compete in the matchup after picking up a knock in a 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise; the former Tema Youth player scored in the win and picked up the Man of the Match Award in just 37 minutes of play.

Genk has competed in nine games in the Belgian top flight this season and prior to his absence in the Gent matchup, Paintsil had featured in all eight games prior.

The 24 year old speedster started seven of those games and has four goals and two assists as one of the in-form Black Stars players in the lead up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He is expected to make a return when Genk play FV Oostende on October 1 after the international window.

Paintsil recently extended his deal with Genk to 2026.
