2022 CHAN: Legon Cities PRO cautiously optimistic about Black Galaxies chances

Public Relations Officer of Legon Cities FC, Kwame Dwomoh Agyeman, is cautiously optimistic about Ghana’s chances of progressing beyond the group stage at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

He said this in an exclusive interview with CITI Sports following the draw for the upcoming tournament in Algeria in January. The competition’s start date had to be pushed back due to effects of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Ghana’s Black Galaxies have been drawn in Group C with two time winners Morocco, Sudan and newbie Madagascar.

The top two teams in the group progress to the next stage.

I can only wish the team well but I am cautiously optimistic about our chances. For club football, we’ve done next to nothing as far as our continental football is concerned. You look at the Moroccan team they’ve won the (CHAN) competition in the last two editions obviously on the back of performances by players at the club level and they’ve carried that momentum into the CHAN.

“So if we are going to look at it purely from that angle it’s very difficult to say that Ghana stand a chance but on the other hand, there are a lot of surprises in football” the veteran Journalist said.

Ghana is returning to the competition eligible to players competing in national football leagues in Africa after missing the past three editions in a row. The 2022 CHAN runs from January 13 to February 4.
